Jon,
I am really glad to read this entry. The many FREE classes available on eduFire.com already make a difference for many people who would not otherwise be able to have an education. Many of the tutors donate their time and knowledge. The staff and faculty are all very proud to be part of eduFire and its generous and compassionate community.

We, the tutors, of EduFire, are looking at offering free classes to people in Afghanistan. We're just getting organized, and there is a lot of work to do yet. We have the willing volunteers with various areas of expertise. We know that it will not be easy to overcome red tape, cultural differences, and to reach in the areas without equipment or even electricity.

Afghanistan is our starting point. This program will be offered in all the countries that need it, eventually.

Education is fundamental! Education empowers each individual!

Instead of the government continuing to increase the problem through provided services, it is time to put people in control of their own destiny, and let those whose income prevents them from affording these necessities equal access to education and the class mobility it provides. Individuals must have the right, and responsibility to make their own decisions on healthcare and education with the only government involvement transferring funds for the service each individual chooses on the open market.
rent a car bucuresti

[...] Bear with me here for a minute. If you’re reading this blog it’s probably because you actually give a damn. You care about education. Maybe your education. Maybe education in general. Maybe education for people in places who weren’t quite as blessed as we are. [...]

I agree, equality of education is the key to everything else. However, in the continental US, the quality of public school education is substandard. Teachers prefer to wail "ADD!" and get kids hooked on ritalin instead of learning how to teach kids that think differently.

My feeling is that multimedia tutorials allow every child to learn in their own way at their own pace. This allows a few highly skilled teachers to educate billions simply by authoring interactive DVD's and web sites. As for the thousands of disgruntled "teachers" out there, I'm sure they can discover hidden talents and pursue other careers to which they are better suited... consequently having more fun and making more money.
