Thinking differently about schooling…

A little wierd. I can only guess what sort of parents would send their kids to a school like that. Not that it’s all bad, don’t get me wrong, there are some good points, one of the strongest is that motivated, self-directed learning really is the most successful. But, at same time, at some point they have to re-enter the ‘real world’, and employment, one would assume, and that, I’m afraid, is very, very, very different. And, unless the ‘working world’ changes drastically, the New American Schoolhouse idea will remain a slightly eccentric experiment.

thanks for the comment, shiloh. i think the key thing we believe is that the world *is* changing. it’s now much easier to be entrepreneurial than ever before, and the skill set you need to do so isn’t being taught in our schools.
heck, even in the corporate world, being a “team player” is highly valued, yet if you collaborate in regular-ol’ school, you’re cheating.
i can’t remember the stat, but the percentage of students that graduate from these types of schools is abnormally high… like 50% plus if i recall correctly.
